The Hunting Lodge
The Hunting Lodge, also known as The School House, dates back to as early as 1700s. It has been lovingly restored, keeping the original architectural features and mindfully decorated with an eye for detail. The Lodge offers peace and tranquillity in abundance and is the perfect place to stay, unwind, relax and listen to bird song. We have created a truly luxurious, tranquil and homely atmosphere for our guests to enjoy.
The Hunting Lodge is a closed-off wing of the main residence. The entrance opens to a long kitchen and a spiral staircase that leads to two large bedrooms and a bathroom with full size walk-in shower. The beds are luxurious and comforting. Downstairs is a cosy sitting room with a wood burning stove and off that a single room and bathroom. The rooms are all spacious with high ceilings and plenty of light.
Individual features such as exposed beams and stonework, restored antique furniture, beautiful Irish handmade pottery, designer rugs and throws add to the luxury country house feel.

We had a wonderful time and discovered new hidden aspects of wonderful Offaly. Wunderbar!!
Supreme accommodation! A wonderful home and host.
There aren’t enough words to convey our appreciation and love for you Margaret, your family, animals, and this gorgeous home. I’ve never felt more at ease and peaceful in someone else’s home.
Mount Briscoe is the quintessential Irish dream. Driving through the large stone gates, we were almost immediately greeted by beautiful white Irish Draught Horses on either side of the avenue – which led up to the family’s fantastic Georgian country house. Set in lush grounds and steeped in history, it’s impossible not to fall in love with it. The accommodations (a renovated hunting lodge, attached to the main house) were absolutely impeccable – straight out of Country Living magazine. Bliss. My mum and I were thrilled at finding this jewel in the Irish countryside and consider ourselves privileged for having had the chance to experience it
100% – 5 STARS – Two Thumbs up! There is no rating that can measure an experience, like that of spending time at Mount Briscoe. My wife and 4yr old son spent a week with Margaret and her family in late September/October. The home is something out of the pages of Architectural Digest.
MUST DO for couples, singles or families. Enjoy the this wonderful home with it’s beautiful decor, comfy beds and cozy country kitchen, then go explore the area.
The location is a beautiful working organic farm with a large 3BR stone farmhouse attached but entirely separate to the main house. The working farm provides gorgeous views, horses, cows and lots of peace and relaxation. The garden and courtyard are filled with little surprises like decorative twig sculptures and potted geraniums. The farmhouse is impeccably clean, with very modern baths and fitted with beautiful touches like locally made pottery in the gorgeous gourmet kitchen. As for hosting, Margaret is a delight and new friend. She had the wood stove started nightly in the living room and would offer any additional needs for grocery staples as well as local information and suggestions. I felt incredibly welcome and a little spoiled.
The home is something out of the pages of Architectural Digest, a full modern restoration of a 1750’s home and out buildings. The kitchen has the best oven/gas range I have ever used and I miss it already! The king size bed was such a welcome sight after a month in Ireland and so were the full size walk-in showers”. Carson, Toronto, Canada October 2016 “Mount Briscoe is truly a little piece of heaven in the Irish countryside.
My husband pronounced Mount Briscoe as our best pick ever for vacation stays, which is tremendous praise indeed. I agree entirely!
