Bog Safari

A fascinating insight into this unique and primeval landscape

The Experience

A Journey
Through Time
Since their formation, the blanket bogs of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands have grown to a thickness of twelve metres — some 10,000 years deep. Embedded in the peat are chapters of human history. Old Croghan Man, discovered near Croghan, County Offaly, represents human sacrifice from a Celtic ritual. We explore how the bog was formed, its myths and legends, traditional turf cutting, and the unique biodiversity of the bog and its critical role in the fight against climate change.

Your guide Margaret will lead you through an immersive journey into Ireland’s native woodlands and raised bogs — deep dive conversation, and meaningful connection with people and place.
