Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme organised by the Guild of Fine Food.
Putting your food or drink to the test to a panel of over 500 experts is a quick way to get honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers. Great Taste stars are highly respected seals of approval.
Products are judged principally on flavour, although aroma, appearance, texture, mouthfeel and the quality of the ingredients are also considered. One, two or three stars may be awarded
Winning a Great Taste Award is considered a significant and prestigious achievement in the food and drink industry.
Why the Award is Significant
- Rigorous Judging: Over 14,000 products from more than 100 countries are blind-tasted by over 500 industry experts, including chefs, buyers, and food critics. Judges cannot see branding, which removes bias and focuses entirely on taste, texture, and aroma.
- Exclusivity: Only about 35% to 40% of all entries receive any star rating, making it a true mark of distinction.
- Meaning of the Stars:
- 1-Star: A simply delicious, well-made product.
- 2-Star: An outstanding and impressive quality
- 3-Star: A faultless, exquisite product achieved by fewer than 2% of entries.
Business and Consumer Impact
- Credibility and Sales: Winners display the iconic black-and-gold star sticker on their packaging. Most users agree that the label carries strong consumer trust.
- A Leg Up for Artisans: It helps small, independent producers stand out against dominant supermarket brands.
